Rolex Hulk vs Starbucks: Which to Buy
What actually separates the two green Rolex Submariner models, before the spec sheets.

In the Rolex Hulk vs Starbucks question, the split comes down to one thing. The Hulk, reference 116610LV, has a green dial and a green bezel. The Starbucks, reference 126610LV, has a black dial and a green bezel.
That single dial choice is worth about $4,000 as of September 2026. The Hulk is discontinued and trades around $19,000. The Starbucks is in current production and trades around $15,000, against a retail sticker of $11,900 if you can get an allocation.

Every other difference runs the other way. The Starbucks is the newer watch on every line of the spec sheet: better movement, longer power reserve, slimmer lugs, more comfortable bracelet taper. It is also the one you can walk into an authorized dealer and put your name down for.
They are closer than the nicknames make them sound. Both are Submariner Date. Both are Oystersteel, both are rated to 300m, both use a green Cerachrom bezel and the Glidelock clasp. You are picking a dial color and a decade, not two different watches.
The short version
Two green Submariners, ten years apart, and the reason the older one costs more.
- The Hulk, ref. 116610LV, built 2010 to 2020, is the only Submariner Rolex ever made with both a green dial and a green bezel.
- The Starbucks, ref. 126610LV, launched 2020, pairs a black lacquer dial with the green bezel in a 41mm case.
- The Starbucks has the better engine: Caliber 3235 with 70 hours of power reserve, against the Hulk's Caliber 3135 with 48.
- The Hulk costs roughly $4,000 more because it was discontinued, not because it performs better.
- The catch on the Hulk: the Super Case wears heavy, and a lot of the examples now trading are due for service.
- The catch on the Starbucks: authorized dealer waitlists are long enough that most buyers end up paying a secondary market premium anyway.
Rolex Hulk vs Starbucks specifications compared
The numbers that actually differ, with the ones that do not left in so you can see how much overlap there is.
The Starbucks wins the spec sheet by a clear margin, and it is not particularly close on the movement.

How the Hulk and the Starbucks wear
The part the spec sheet gets backwards.
The 40mm Hulk wears bigger than the 41mm Starbucks. Everyone who tries both in the showroom says the same thing, usually within about ten seconds.
The Hulk uses the Super Case, the wide-lug design Rolex ran from 2010. The lugs are thick and squared off, the crown guards swell out until they almost meet the crown, and the whole case fills the space between your wrist bones. On a 6.75 inch wrist it looks like a tool. Some people buy it for exactly that.
The Starbucks case is a millimetre wider and reads noticeably smaller. Rolex trimmed the lugs back in 2020 and widened the bracelet to 21mm at the lug, tapering to 16mm at the clasp. It drapes instead of perching. The crown guard is cut back so you can see the case line behind it, which is the fastest way to tell the two apart in a blurry listing photo.
What the green dial actually does
Under showroom lighting the Hulk's dial reads close to black. Take it outside and the sunburst finish flips to a bright metallic green that changes as you turn your wrist. That effect is most of the reason the watch has the following it has, and photographs of it are usually worse than the thing itself.
The Starbucks keeps green as an accent. Black lacquer dial, green bezel, nothing else. It reads as a normal Submariner from three feet away and most people never notice the bezel until you point it out. If you want the watch to be quiet at work, that matters.
Caliber 3135 versus Caliber 3235
The one area where the newer watch is straightforwardly better, with a caveat.
The 3235 gives you 70 hours of power reserve against the 3135's 48. In practice that is the difference between taking the watch off Friday night and finding it running on Monday morning, or finding it stopped.
The 3235 earns the extra hours with the Chronergy escapement, a redesigned pallet fork and escape wheel that moves more energy through the train, plus a longer barrel. Rolex also fitted Paraflex shock absorbers and certifies it to minus 2 to plus 2 seconds per day under the Superlative Chronometer standard.
The 3135 has been in production since 1988 and that is its own argument. Every independent watchmaker in Los Angeles has worked on one. Parts are everywhere, service is cheaper, and turnaround is faster. If you plan to keep a watch for twenty years and not send it back to Rolex, that counts for something real.
The honest drawback on each
The Hulk stops over a weekend. If you rotate watches at all, expect to reset the date most Monday mornings. It is a small thing that becomes a daily irritation for some owners and never registers for others.
The 3235 had documented teething problems in its first years, mostly on Datejust and Sea-Dweller examples from roughly 2015 to 2018, where the real-world power reserve fell short of the claim. The Submariner launched in 2020, after those revisions, and we have not seen the issue on 126610LV examples across our counter. Still worth knowing if you are shopping the wider 3235 family.

Rolex Hulk vs Starbucks prices as of September 2026
Transaction figures, not listing prices, and what the premium looks like after tax.
A clean Hulk with box and papers changes hands around $19,000 to $21,000. A Starbucks in the same condition is $15,000 to $16,500. That $4,000 spread is the whole argument.

Why the 26 percent premium is not really 26 percent
Retail on the Starbucks is $11,900. Add Los Angeles sales tax at 9.5 percent and the authorized dealer price out the door is $13,030. Buying a complete set on the secondary market at $15,500 is therefore about $2,470 more than the dealer route, or roughly 19 percent, not 26.
Then subtract the waitlist. Allocation on the green bezel is among the tightest in the Submariner line, and most people asking about one have been on a list for two years without a call. Paying $2,470 to skip that is a decision plenty of buyers make without hesitating, and we do not think it is a bad one.
The Hulk math is different because there is no retail option at all. It has gone from $9,050 at discontinuation in 2020 to roughly $19,000 six years later, with a spike above $30,000 in between that trapped anyone who bought at the top. Anybody telling you it only goes up has not looked at a chart of 2022.
What a dealer actually pays
A listing price is not money. If you bring us a Starbucks with box and papers today, a realistic same-day cash offer sits in the $13,000s. On a clean Hulk full set it is in the $17,000s. That gap between ask and offer is the real cost of owning either one, and it is worth knowing before you buy, not after.
What collectors should know before buying either one
The things that move the number by thousands, in the order we check them.
Papers matter more on the Hulk than on almost any other modern Submariner. The spread between a full set and a watch-only example runs 10 to 15 percent, because the discontinued green dial is the single most convincingly faked Rolex sports dial in circulation.
Check the bracelet before you look at the dial
Every Hulk on the market has been worn for at least six years and most for longer. Hold the watch by the clasp and let it hang. If the links cascade instead of holding a curve, the bracelet is stretched, and Rolex will not replace individual links on a discontinued reference without a full bracelet charge. We price stretched examples down and so should you.
Look at the lug chamfers for polishing
The Super Case has a sharp bevel running down the outside of each lug. On an unpolished Hulk the line where brushed meets polished is crisp with no rounding. On a refinished one that edge goes soft and the lug looks slightly melted. It is the fastest polish check on the watch.
The Starbucks bezel variants
Collectors describe early and later production 126610LV bezels as MK1 and MK2, with a subtle shift in the green tone and the numeral rendering. Some buyers pay up for the earlier version. We would not let it drive the decision, and we would want it confirmed against the serial before anyone paid a premium for it. [Confirm the exact production cutoff and the tonal difference before quoting either variant as a value factor.]
Budget for service
Rolex recommends service roughly every ten years. That means Hulks from 2010 through 2016 are due now or overdue, and a Rolex service on a Submariner runs in the region of $900 before anything unexpected. A Starbucks bought today has most of a decade before you think about it.
Risk flag
Green dial fakes have improved considerably since 2022. Check the rehaut engraving alignment against the 12 o'clock marker, confirm the cyclops magnifies at 2.5x and not less, and look at the lume under UV for even response across all markers. If a Hulk is priced below $15,000, there is a reason, and it is not a motivated seller.

Which one should you buy
A real answer, then the people who should ignore it.
Buy the Starbucks. For most buyers it is the better watch and the better purchase, and the $4,000 you save is not buying you performance, it is buying you a color that was discontinued.
You get the newer movement, the more comfortable case, a watch that is still under warranty or can be, and a price that has held steady rather than round-tripping from $9,000 to $30,000 and back. If it is your first Rolex, this is the one.
Buy the Hulk if
- You want the green dial specifically
- You have a 7 inch wrist or larger
- You are holding five years or more
- You already own a black Submariner
- Discontinued status matters to you
Buy the Starbucks if
- This is your first Rolex
- You want green without announcing it
- You wear one watch every day
- Smaller or average wrist
- You want warranty and service headroom
Who should look elsewhere entirely
If you want a Submariner and do not specifically want green, the 126610LN with the black bezel does everything the Starbucks does for roughly $1,000 less at retail and trades at a smaller premium. The no-date 124060 is cleaner still and cheaper again.
If you are buying the Hulk as a trade, stop. The speculative window closed in 2023, volume has thinned, and a dealer offer is thousands below the asking prices you are reading. Buy it because you want to wear it green.
Rolex Hulk vs Starbucks FAQ
What is the difference between the Rolex Hulk and the Starbucks?
The Rolex Hulk, reference 116610LV, has a green dial and a green ceramic bezel in a 40mm case, with Caliber 3135 and 48 hours of power reserve. The Starbucks, reference 126610LV, has a black dial and a green ceramic bezel in a 41mm case, with Caliber 3235 and 70 hours of power reserve. The Hulk was made from 2010 to 2020 and is discontinued. The Starbucks launched in 2020 and is in current production.
Is the Rolex Hulk worth more than the Starbucks?
Yes. As of September 2026 a Rolex Hulk 116610LV with box and papers trades at roughly $19,000 to $21,000, while a Rolex Starbucks 126610LV in the same condition trades at roughly $15,000 to $16,500. The Hulk commands the premium because it is discontinued and is the only Submariner ever made with both a green dial and a green bezel.
Why was the Rolex Hulk discontinued?
Rolex retired the Submariner 116610LV in September 2020 as part of a full redesign of the Submariner line. The new generation moved to a 41mm case with slimmer lugs and the Caliber 3235 movement. Rolex replaced the all-green Hulk with the 126610LV, which kept the green bezel but switched to a black dial. Rolex has never explained the decision publicly.
Is the Starbucks the same as the Hulk?
No. They are different references. The Starbucks is the Submariner 126610LV with a black dial and green bezel, introduced in 2020. The Hulk is the Submariner 116610LV with a green dial and green bezel, produced from 2010 to 2020. The Starbucks is the Hulk's successor in the lineup but is not a green dial watch.
Which is bigger, the Hulk or the Starbucks?
The Starbucks is 41mm and the Hulk is 40mm, but the Hulk wears larger. The Hulk uses the Super Case with thick lugs and heavy crown guards, while the 2020 redesign trimmed the lugs and widened the bracelet taper. On most wrists the 40mm Hulk looks and feels like the bigger watch of the two.
Will the Rolex Starbucks go up in value like the Hulk did?
Not while it remains in production. The Rolex Starbucks 126610LV trades roughly 26 percent above its $11,900 retail price because authorized dealer allocation is tight, not because supply has ended. Historically the sharp appreciation on references like the Hulk came after discontinuation. Until Rolex retires the 126610LV, expect it to track retail increases rather than outrun them.
Is the Rolex Hulk a good investment in 2026?
It is a reasonable long-term hold and a poor short-term trade. The Rolex Hulk 116610LV peaked above $30,000 in early 2022 and trades around $19,000 to $21,000 as of September 2026, so anyone who bought at the top is still underwater. A dealer cash offer will also sit several thousand dollars below listing prices. Buy it to wear and hold for five years or more, not to flip.
Does the Rolex Starbucks have a green dial?
No. The Rolex Starbucks 126610LV has a black lacquer dial with a green Cerachrom bezel. The only Submariner with a green dial is the discontinued Hulk, reference 116610LV, made from 2010 to 2020. The nickname Starbucks refers to the green and black color pairing of the coffee company logo.
