About Yellow Gold Rolex Sky-Dweller Watches

Solid 18k yellow gold is where the Sky-Dweller began. When Rolex launched the model in 2012 it was a gold-only collection, and yellow gold on an Oyster bracelet was one of the three original references. Steel did not arrive for another five years. Where the Sky-Dweller Started

The 2012 launch lineup was yellow gold on Oyster, white gold on Oyster, and Everose on a leather strap. No steel, no Rolesor, and no accessible entry point. For its first five years the Sky-Dweller was a full precious metal watch and it sold slowly, which is a large part of why the 2017 Rolesor introduction is described as the moment the model went mainstream. For a buyer today that history matters practically rather than sentimentally: the earliest yellow gold references predate every steel Sky-Dweller by half a decade and carry configurations Rolex has since dropped entirely.

Every Solid Yellow Gold Reference

Five references cover the metal across three strap and bracelet types. Reference 326938 launched in 2012 on an Oyster bracelet and ran to 2023 on the Caliber 9001. Reference 326138 added a leather strap version in 2014, produced only until 2017. Reference 326238 replaced the leather with the Oysterflex rubber strap in 2017. The current generation brought 336938 on Oyster or, since 2024, Jubilee, and 336238 on Oysterflex, both running the Caliber 9002 with the Chronergy escapement.

The Numeral Dials Only Gold Has

This is the detail that makes the early gold references genuinely distinct rather than just older. The original 2012 dials offered Arabic and Roman numeral hour markers, and Rolex discontinued both in 2017 in favour of rectangular baton indices across the whole collection. That was the same year Rolesor arrived, which means no steel Sky-Dweller has ever had a numeral dial and none ever will. If you want a Sky-Dweller with Roman or Arabic numerals, you are buying a first-generation solid gold reference from before 2017, and there is no alternative route to it. It is also a configuration that is easy to overlook in a listing, since the reference number does not indicate the dial.

Bracelet, Strap, or Rubber

Yellow gold has had the widest range of wrist options in the collection and the choice materially changes the watch. The Oyster bracelet in solid gold is the heaviest configuration Rolex offers on this model, and weight is the practical consideration on a 42mm full gold watch rather than a styling one. Oysterflex cuts that weight substantially while keeping every gram of gold in the case and bezel, which is why a number of buyers move to it after living with the bracelet. The Green Dial Premium

Rolex added a green dial to the yellow gold 336938 in 2024, and it behaves the way special colours behave on the gold side of this collection. Where a premium dial on White Rolesor adds a few thousand dollars, a special colour on a solid gold reference can add substantially more, because it is scarcity stacked on top of an already expensive watch. Green against yellow gold is also a warmer and more traditional pairing than the mint green on steel, and it reads quite differently on the wrist. The current 336938 on an Oyster bracelet carries a retail figure around $57,200 after the January 2026 increase, and trades between roughly $48,000 and $70,000 or more depending on dial and configuration. The bottom of that range sits well below retail. Older first-generation references start considerably lower, from around $29,000. Gold Sky-Dwellers softened during the 2022 and 2023 correction and have not fully recovered, which means this is one of the few current Rolex tiers where a buyer can be on the right side of the retail gap. Solid Gold or Yellow Rolesor

The two look related and cost very differently. Yellow Rolesor puts gold on the bezel, crown, and centre links of a steel watch and sits around the mid twenties to mid thirties. The honest framing is that Rolesor gives you the two-tone look at a fraction of the metal content, while solid gold gives you a watch nobody mistakes for steel and a price that currently sits closer to retail than the steel references do.
