About Grey Rolex Watches

Shop pre-owned and unworn grey Rolex watches at WatchGuys. Grey is one of the most recognizable and sought-after dial colors in the Rolex Datejust collection, anchored by the Wimbledon dial. The Wimbledon combines a slate-grey sunburst base with green-outlined Roman numerals and was made famous by long-time Rolex ambassador Roger Federer. Beyond the Wimbledon, grey appears on the Datejust as dark rhodium and slate variants with stick or Roman numeral indexes. Every grey Rolex at WatchGuys is authenticated by our in-house watchmakers, ships overnight, and is backed by our 2-year warranty.

The Wimbledon Dial

The Wimbledon dial is the flagship grey Rolex and sits exclusively in the Datejust family. Rolex introduced it in 2009 on the Datejust II two-tone reference 116333 as a subtle tribute to the Wimbledon Championships (Rolex has been the Official Timekeeper since 1978). The dial uses a slate-grey sunburst base, applied black-enamel Roman numerals outlined in green, and a single luminous baton at 9 o'clock. When Rolex discontinued the Datejust II in 2016, the Wimbledon dial moved to the Datejust 41 across references 126300, 126334 (Oystersteel with white gold fluted bezel), 126333 (Yellow Rolesor), 126331 (Everose Rolesor), and 126303. In 2018 it expanded to the Datejust 36 with references 126200, 126234, 126233, 126231, and 126201. Browse our dedicated Rolex Wimbledon collection for full availability.

Dark Rhodium and Slate Grey Variants

Not every grey Rolex is a Wimbledon. The Datejust 126334 also offers a standalone slate dial with stick indexes, along with dark rhodium variants featuring diamond hour markers, both of which share the grey family color without the green Roman numerals. The discontinued Datejust II (116300, 116333, 116334) also included a rhodium dial option with traditional stick or Roman numeral indexes. Grey and rhodium dials occasionally appear on select Day-Date references as well, though these are far less common than the Wimbledon. Our Datejust II guide covers the older generation in detail.

Grey Rolex Price

Pre-owned grey Rolex prices depend on reference, material, and configuration. The Wimbledon dial Datejust 41 in Oystersteel (126300, 126334) typically trades between $11,000 and $19,500 on the pre-owned market, with the Jubilee-bracelet configuration commanding a premium. Two-tone Yellow Rolesor (126333) and Everose Rolesor (126331) Wimbledon references trade between $15,000 and $22,000. The Datejust 36 Wimbledon (126234, 126200) starts around $10,700 for unworn examples. Dark rhodium and slate variants on the 126334 fall within the same range, with diamond-set variants pushing higher. The discontinued Datejust II Wimbledon (116333, 116334) generally trades between $10,000 and $14,000 and offers strong value given its collectible status.

Common Questions

Grey Rolex FAQ

  • The Wimbledon is a collector nickname for a specific Datejust dial configuration with a slate-grey sunburst base, black-enamel Roman numeral hour markers outlined in green, and a single luminous baton at 9 o'clock. Rolex has never officially used the "Wimbledon" name on any product, but the nickname became universal because Rolex has been the Official Timekeeper of the Wimbledon Championships since 1978 and Roger Federer wore the dial during multiple tournament appearances.

  • Both terms describe the same dial. Rolex refers to the base color as "slate," but it falls squarely within the grey dial family. The sunburst finish causes the tone to shift across a range of grey shades depending on light angle, appearing metallic and brighter in direct sunlight and deeper charcoal-grey in lower light. For collectors and dealers, "slate grey" and "grey Wimbledon" are used interchangeably.

  • Grey dials appear almost exclusively on the Datejust. This includes the Datejust 41 (references 126300, 126334, 126333, 126331, 126303) and the Datejust 36 (references 126200, 126234, 126233, 126231, 126201), both with the Wimbledon configuration and with dark rhodium or slate variants. The discontinued Datejust II (116300, 116333, 116334) also offered grey dials. Select Day-Date references carry grey dials as well, though it is much less common. Grey does not appear as a standard option on the Submariner, Daytona, GMT-Master II, or Explorer.

  • Pre-owned Wimbledon dial Datejust 41 references in Oystersteel (126300, 126334) typically trade between $11,000 and $19,500 on the pre-owned market. Two-tone Yellow Rolesor (126333) and Everose Rolesor (126331) Wimbledons trade between $15,000 and $22,000. The Datejust 36 Wimbledon (126234, 126200) starts around $10,700 unworn. The discontinued Datejust II Wimbledon (116333, 116334) generally trades between $10,000 and $14,000.

  • Both are grey-family dial colors, but they read differently. Slate is a warmer, slightly brown-tinted grey most often paired with the Wimbledon Roman numerals. Dark rhodium is a cooler, more metallic grey that sits closer to anthracite and typically appears with stick indexes or diamond hour markers rather than Roman numerals. On the Datejust 126334, both finishes are available and frequently cross-shopped.

  • Yes. Roger Federer has been a Rolex ambassador since 2006 and has been photographed wearing the slate-grey, green Roman numeral Datejust on multiple occasions, including after his 2017 Wimbledon title and courtside at Wimbledon 2022. Those appearances cemented the nickname, though collectors had already adopted "Wimbledon" as shorthand for the dial well before the Federer association took off in the mainstream press.
