In 2021, Omega introduced a new iteration of the Moonwatch, featuring an updated caliber (3861) that made the watch more precise and anti-magnetic. This updated Moonwatch also came with two crystal variations: the Sapphire Sandwich and Hesalite versions.

The Omega Hesalite Speedmaster’s crystal is made of an acrylic material, true to the original Moonwatch model from back in 1969.
Hesalite was a preferable material for safety purposes, since it tends to crack instead of shatter into sharp pieces.
A major trade-off for Hesalite, though, is that it scratches far easier. However, these scratches can be polished out and are a much cheaper fix. Sapphire, on the other hand, is expensive to fix.
The Omega Sapphire Sandwich Speedmaster has a crystal and case back that are made from sapphire. It gets its nickname from the watch being “sandwiched” between two crystals, which makes it a heavier wear than Hesalite.
Using sapphire crystals gives this watch a bit of an upgrade, since it is clearer, anti-glare and scratch resistant. However, it does have the potential to chip and crack and is more expensive to fix.

The Hesalite model has the classic brush finish on the bracelet, giving it a more rugged, matte appearance that has a vintage appeal. The Sapphire Sandwich bracelet features a brushed finish with polished center links, giving it a dressier look.
