+The Rolex Submariner 5517 “MilSub” is one of the most legendary and collectible military-issued Rolex watches, produced exclusively for the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) in the 1970s. Built to strict military specifications, the 5517 is instantly recognizable by its fixed, welded strap bars for NATO strap use, sword-shaped hands for enhanced legibility, and fully graduated 60-minute bezel insert for precise timing. The 40mm stainless steel Oyster case was rated to 200 meters, housing the reliable Calibre 1520 automatic movement. Matte black dials with tritium lume feature the encircled “T” marking, denoting the use of tritium paint, and some examples show military stock numbers engraved on the case back. Produced in extremely limited numbers and never sold to the public, the 5517 remains one of the most desirable vintage tool watches, celebrated for its rugged authenticity, military provenance, and status as the ultimate no-nonsense Submariner built for combat divers.
