The Rolex Daytona 6264, produced for only a short period in the early 1970s, is one of the rarest and most collectible vintage Daytonas. It represents the transitional era between pump-pusher chronographs like the 6239/6241 and the screw-down pusher references 6263/6265. Measuring 37mm, the 6264 retained pump pushers but introduced the black acrylic bezel with a tachymeter scale, a defining feature that gave the watch a sportier, more modern look. Inside, it was powered by the manual-wind Valjoux 727, an upgraded version of the Caliber 722 with improved balance and higher frequency for better accuracy. Dials came in classic black or silver with contrasting sub-dials, including highly coveted “Paul Newman” variants that command extraordinary value at auction today. Because of its very limited production—around 1970 to 1972—the 6264 remains one of the most elusive and desirable vintage Daytona references, appealing to both racing history enthusiasts and serious collectors.
