The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 6262, produced only briefly in 1970–1971, is one of the rarest and most transitional vintage Daytonas. Measuring 37mm, it retained the pump pushers and clean case profile of earlier models, but it introduced a new engine: the upgraded Valjoux 727 manual-wind chronograph movement, beating at a faster 21,600 vibrations per hour for improved precision. The bezel was engraved with a black-filled tachymeter scale, offering a sportier and more technical aesthetic compared to the earlier steel bezels. Available in stainless steel, 14k, and 18k gold, the 6262 could be configured with both standard dials and the highly coveted “Paul Newman” exotic dials, which are now among the most sought-after vintage Rolex variations at auction. Because of its short production run and status as a transitional model bridging the early 6239/6241 and the screw-down pusher 6263/6265 era, the Daytona 6262 holds a special place in the lineage, combining vintage charm with an upgraded movement, making it a true rarity for collectors.
