The Rolex Daytona 6240, introduced in the mid-1960s, is one of the rarest and most historically important early Daytonas, notable for being the very first reference to feature screw-down chronograph pushers. This innovation dramatically improved water resistance compared to its predecessors and set the design standard for all future Daytona models. Housed in a 37mm stainless steel case with an acrylic black bezel insert and tachymeter scale, the 6240 carried the manual-wind Valjoux 72-based Caliber 722. Produced in extremely limited numbers until the late 1960s, it was offered with either black or silver dials, often with contrasting sub-dials, though dial variations were fewer than other references of the era. Because of its short production run, pioneering technical updates, and scarcity, the 6240 is one of the most coveted early Daytonas among collectors, bridging the gap between the pump-pusher 6239/6241 and the later screw-down pusher Daytona icons like the 6263 and 6265.
