The Rolex Daytona 6239, introduced in 1963, is the very first Cosmograph Daytona and one of the most historically important chronographs ever produced. It features a 37mm stainless steel case, pump pushers, and an engraved steel bezel with a tachymeter scale that defined the Daytona’s racing identity. Powered by the manual-wind Valjoux 72 movement (Rolex Caliber 722), it offered precision timing for motorsport enthusiasts. The dial came in silver or black with contrasting sub-dials, later giving rise to the famous “Paul Newman” exotic dial variants that are among the most coveted Rolex watches today. Produced until around 1969, the 6239 established the foundation for the Daytona legend and remains one of the most desirable vintage references in the world.
