Rolex Submariner 114060 First Impressions

What hits you the moment you pick up the 114060.

The Rolex Submariner 114060 makes an immediate statement that separates it from every other generation of the no-date Sub. Pick it up and the first thing you register is density. This is a solid, purposeful tool watch, and the Oystersteel case paired with the glossy black Cerachrom bezel gives it a presence that photos simply do not capture. Among Rolex watches, the 114060 occupies a distinctive position: the last of the 40mm ceramic Submariners, and the only modern reference to pair that ceramic bezel with the bold "super case" lug design.

The symmetry of the no-date dial is what draws most buyers to this reference over the Submariner Date. Without the Cyclops lens or date window, the 114060 dial is perfectly balanced, and the oversized Maxi indices filled with blue Chromalight give it a modern, confident look. Flip the watch over and you get the classic Rolex solid caseback, engraved with sharp, clean lettering. There is nothing flashy here. The 114060 communicates competence, not decoration.

The Rolex Submariner 114060 wears larger than its 40mm diameter suggests. The thicker lugs of the "super case" push the visual footprint closer to what you would expect from a 42mm watch, and the 48.1mm lug-to-lug measurement means it sits comfortably on wrists 6.5 inches and above. On anything below 6.25 inches, the lugs may overhang slightly. At 12.5mm thick, the case clears most shirt cuffs without catching, though it is noticeably chunkier than the slimmed-down 124060 that replaced it.

Weight distribution is excellent. The solid-link Oyster bracelet with solid end links keeps the watch balanced on the wrist rather than top-heavy. The Glidelock clasp is the standout feature for daily wear: it allows 2mm micro-adjustments without tools, which means you can dial in the perfect fit as your wrist expands in warm weather or contracts in cold conditions. After a full day on the wrist, the 114060 disappears. That is the highest compliment you can pay a sport watch.

Rolex Submariner 114060 Specifications

Breaking down the 114060 from every angle.

Case

The Rolex Submariner 114060 case is machined from Rolex's proprietary 904L Oystersteel, a corrosion-resistant alloy originally developed for chemical processing. The finishing alternates between brushed flanks and polished bevels on the lugs, and the transitions are crisp. The "super case" design features thicker lugs and more pronounced crown guards than either its predecessor (the 14060M) or its successor (the 124060). Crown action is smooth and precise: the Triplock screw-down crown requires about three turns to fully seat, and hand-winding is buttery with no grittiness. The solid caseback is engraved with fine, legible text. Water resistance is rated to 300 meters.

Dial and Bezel

The Rolex Submariner 114060 pairs a matte black dial with the Maxi index layout introduced in this generation. Hour markers are oversized compared to five-digit references, rimmed in 18K white gold, and filled with Chromalight luminescent material that glows blue in the dark. The blue Chromalight lasts noticeably longer than the green lume on older Submariners, remaining readable after eight or more hours in darkness. The unidirectional Cerachrom bezel is virtually scratchproof, with platinum-coated numerals that catch light cleanly. Bezel action has 120 clicks with satisfying, precise detents and zero backplay.

Bracelet

The Rolex Submariner 114060 Oyster bracelet features solid center links, solid end links, and the Oysterlock safety clasp with Glidelock extension system. The bracelet tapers from 20mm at the lugs to approximately 16mm at the clasp. Articulation between links is tight when new but loosens slightly over years of wear. The Glidelock system allows up to 20mm of on-the-fly extension in 2mm increments, making wetsuit accommodation effortless. On pre-owned examples, check for stretch between the links near the clasp, as this is the most common sign of heavy wear.

What to Check on a Pre-Owned Rolex 114060

"When I inspect a 114060 for our inventory, I always check three things first. The bezel insert for any chips at the 12 o'clock pip, because that ceramic is tough but not indestructible on impacts. The bracelet stretch near the clasp, because these watches were daily drivers and heavy wear shows there first. And the sel (solid end link) fit, because aftermarket parts are more common than you would think. If all three check out, you are looking at a solid example."

Rolex Submariner 114060 Movement Review

How the movement performs where it matters: on the wrist, every day.

The Rolex Submariner 114060 runs the Caliber 3130, a time-only automatic movement that Rolex used across several references for over two decades. It beats at 28,800 vph (4Hz), features a Parachrom hairspring for improved shock and magnetic resistance, and carries COSC chronometer certification plus Rolex's own Superlative Chronometer standard. In practice, that means accuracy within -2/+2 seconds per day after final regulation, though most owners report real-world results closer to +1 second per day. The 48-hour power reserve is the 3130's only notable limitation compared to newer Rolex calibers: leave it off the wrist for a full weekend and it will likely stop before Monday morning.

Hand-winding the 3130 through the crown is smooth but not essential, as the Perpetual rotor keeps it charged efficiently during normal wear. Rotor noise is minimal. For service, expect to pay approximately $800 at a Rolex Service Center for a complete overhaul, which includes movement disassembly, ultrasonic cleaning, re-lubrication, new gaskets, pressure testing, and accuracy regulation. Rolex recommends service intervals of roughly 10 years, though watches worn daily may benefit from attention at the 7 to 8 year mark. The 3130 is one of the most serviced movements in existence, so parts availability is excellent and any competent independent watchmaker can handle the work at a lower cost.

Robertino Altieri, WatchGuys CEO

Service Costs for the Rolex Caliber 3130

"The 3130 is a workhorse. It has been around long enough that every Rolex-trained watchmaker can service it in their sleep, and parts are plentiful. Budget $800 at an RSC or $500 to $600 with a reputable independent. If your 114060 is running more than five seconds fast per day, do not ignore it. Worn mainsprings and dried lubricants only get worse, and catching it early keeps the bill lower."

Rolex Submariner 114060 Price

What the 114060 costs right now on the secondary market.

Rolex Submariner 114060 Market Price

Secondary Market $10,000 - $12,500
Last Retail $7,500
12-Month Trend Appreciating, up ~10%

Prices reflect complete sets (box, papers, warranty card). Watches without complete sets typically trade 5-15% lower.

The Rolex Submariner 114060 has stabilized in the $10,000 to $12,500 range after the broader market correction that followed the 2022 peak. At its highest, this reference traded above $14,000. The correction brought it back to earth, and over the past 12 months, prices have climbed approximately 10%, signaling renewed demand for discontinued Rolex sport references. Complete sets with box, papers, and warranty card command the top end of the range, while examples missing documentation typically sell for 5 to 15% less.

Context matters here. The current-production Rolex Submariner 124060 trades around $12,000 on the secondary market, roughly $2,000 above the 114060. For that premium, you get the updated Caliber 3230 with a 70-hour power reserve and the slimmer lug profile. If the longer power reserve and refined case shape matter to you, the 124060 is the clear choice. If you prefer the classic 40mm size, the bolder wrist presence, and a lower entry price, the 114060 is the smarter buy. For buyers shopping Rolex watches under $10,000, well-worn 114060 examples without full papers occasionally dip below that threshold.

Rolex Submariner 114060 Comparison

The 114060 against the alternatives buyers actually cross-shop.

Rolex Submariner 114060 vs. Rolex Submariner 124060 (Current Production)

The Rolex Submariner 114060 and the Rolex Submariner 124060 represent two different philosophies within the same lineage. The 124060 corrected the super case proportions, trimming the lugs back to a profile more reminiscent of five-digit references while adding 1mm to the overall diameter. The newer Caliber 3230 delivers a 70-hour power reserve compared to the 3130's 48 hours, which is a meaningful upgrade for anyone who rotates between multiple watches. On the flip side, the 114060's bolder case gives it a distinct wrist presence that some collectors actively prefer. At current prices, the roughly $2,000 gap makes the 114060 the stronger value proposition for buyers who do not need the latest generation.

Robertino Altieri, WatchGuys Founder and Rolex expert
Robertino's Take

"I have sold hundreds of both references. The 124060 is the better watch on paper. But the 114060 is where the value is right now. You are getting 95% of the same watch for roughly 80% of the price, and as a discontinued reference, supply is only going one direction. If I were buying a no-date Sub today for daily wear, I would save the two grand and put it toward a service fund."

Rolex Submariner 114060 vs. Rolex Submariner 116610LN (Date)

The Rolex Submariner 114060 and the Rolex Submariner 116610LN share the same case, bracelet, and generation of design. The only functional difference is the date complication and Cyclops lens on the 116610LN. Choosing between them is purely a matter of preference: the 114060's symmetrical dial appeals to purists, while the 116610LN adds daily practicality. The 116610LN typically trades $500 to $1,000 higher, reflecting the broader demand for date-equipped Submariners. Both run different calibers (3130 vs. 3135), though real-world performance is nearly identical.

Is the Rolex Submariner 114060 Worth It?

Is the 114060 worth your money?

The Rolex Submariner 114060 is worth buying. It delivers the full modern Submariner experience (ceramic bezel, Glidelock bracelet, Chromalight lume, 300m water resistance, Superlative Chronometer accuracy) at a price point that undercuts the current-production 124060 by roughly $2,000. Its discontinued status as the last 40mm ceramic no-date Sub gives it a collector narrative that will only strengthen over time.

This watch is ideal for the buyer who wants a single, do-everything Rolex sport watch that transitions from a wetsuit to a boardroom without thinking twice. It is also the right choice for anyone who values the clean, symmetrical no-date dial and prefers the bolder wrist presence of the super case. Buyers who prioritize a longer power reserve, a slimmer case profile, or the latest movement technology should look at the Rolex Submariner 124060 instead. And anyone who needs a date complication for daily use should consider the 116610LN or the current 126610LN.

Robertino Altieri, WatchGuys Founder and Rolex expert
Robertino's Take

"The 114060 is the sweet spot of modern Submariner collecting. You get the ceramic bezel, the Glidelock, the Chromalight, the 904L steel, all for less than the current no-date reference. It is a real watch built for real use, and the people who wore these daily for eight years will tell you they are bulletproof. Buy one in good condition with full papers, wear it, and do not worry about it."
